Do you have Cost Control experience in labour, plant, or materials?Salary: £30,000 – £34,000 per annum Location: Wednesbury, on site 5 days per weekThis is an excellent opportunity to join a leading rail contractor within their Urban/light rail division, supporting a major depot operation. You’ll take ownership of cost control activities, invoice processing, and financial administration across a high-volume, fast-paced delivery environment. Working closely with commercial, engineering and finance teams, you’ll ensure that plant, labour, material and subcontractor costs are accurately recorded, challenged where required, and aligned to project budgets. The role offers strong exposure to major civils and rail infrastructure, with genuine opportunities to build deeper commercial expertise in a supportive and collaborative team.Essential Requirements:<ul>
<li>Experience in a cost engineering or cost control role within construction, rail, civils or engineering environments, or substantial experience as a Cost Clerk handling cost control and invoicing tasks</li><li>Strong understanding of construction project cost elements including plant, labour, materials, depot operations and subcontract packages</li><li>Demonstrable experience processing invoices, checking alignment with purchase orders and ensuring accurate cost allocation</li><li>Confidence engaging with suppliers to query costs, challenge discrepancies and ensure accurate charging</li><li>Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail</li><li>Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (such as Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Construction Management) is preferred</li><li>Familiarity with cost control systems such as Copernic, JADE, LISA or similar</li><li>Membership of ACostE or a similar professional body is advantageous</li></ul>
Nice to Have:<ul>
<li>Background in civils disciplines such as drainage, piling or concrete works</li><li>Experience working at scale with high-volume invoicing or large monthly cost cycles</li><li>Prior work in depot or maintenance environments</li><li>Ability to support elements of change control and cost impact analysis</li></ul>

We are looking for a QS based out of Manchester (will be traveling around the UK on occasion).This is a contract role outside of IR35 and is long term
What are my responsibilities?
<ul>
<li>Commercial functions of various work packages. These may include Design, Signalling Installation, Test &amp; Commission, Materials, Telecoms, Electrification, Power, Plant, Professional Services, Civil Engineering and Permanent Way on the railway infrastructure.</li>
<li>Work with the project delivery team responsible for work package / project change control and management</li>
<li>Liaise with work package managers to collate information on the works</li>
<li>Work package cost management, including forecasting, budget management and control</li>
<li>Prepares internal and external commercial reports</li>
<li>Establish and maintain interfaces with key stakeholders. E.g. finance, project management, engineering, subcontractors, suppliers and Employers team.</li>
<li>Maintaining auditable records for responsible work packages in accordance with contractual requirements</li>
<li>Able to manage cost of both direct labour, material, plant and subcontract cost (essential)</li>
<li>Ability to estimate change / variations using various methods (essential)</li>
<li>Able to forecasts cost and measure cost of work complete (essential)</li>
<li>Good negotiation skills (essential)</li>
<li>Assists with the implement commercial strategies (essential)</li>

What do I need to qualify for the job?
<ul>
<li>Previous Quantity Surveyor / Contract Administrator experience working within a contractor side project environment (essential). Experience ideally gained in a similar or related contracting construction industry e.g. Rail, Engineering, Defence.</li>
<li>HND/Degree qualified or equivalent and or hold or working towards professional qualification, RICS, CICES (essential).</li>
<li>5 years experience.</li>
<li>Strong track record in a contractor side, project environment (essential)</li>
<li>Ability to work under own initiative and under cost or time critical conditions (essential)</li>
<li>Good contractual knowledge and understanding (essential)</li>
<li>Use of Microsoft Office and other software to present high standard of documentation</li>
