Having secured a number of long-term Frameworks with key Clients, our Client, an Engineering and Construction business, are further expanding their in-house Civil & Structural Design team and now has a fantastic opening for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to be based in York on a permanent basis.

You will be responsible for the development of technical solutions in addition to programme & budgetary control, SHEQ considerations, and the coaching and mentoring of colleagues. Responsibilities:

• Initiative and confidence to put forward solutions based on sound engineering principles.
• Challenge the brief, enabling innovative development of unambiguous engineering solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.
• CRE (Design) experience on Network Rail schemes.
• Design and Checking of engineering solutions.
• Production of clear, consistent, referenced calculations, reports and sketches to current CoP and Standards.
• Clear communication of design philosophy and requirements.
• Design representative at meetings.
• Assist change and develop more efficient processes and design tools to assist with the efficient delivery of engineering services.
• Mentor and coach team members.

Key skills/experience:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the design of Civil Engineering structures.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in assessment and design, ideally of railway bridges and station structures; this should include the planning and undertaking of condition surveys for Assessment.
• Proven and effective coordination of workload and management of staff.
• Experience in rail with an associated understanding of bridges, earthworks, drainage and highways interfaces.
• Experience of working on multi-disciplinary projects including interactions with E&P, Signalling, Telecoms, P’Way, and OLE.
• Confident at designing in steel, concrete, composites, masonry and timber.
• Working knowledge of relevant Structural Assessment and Design software packages.
• Good organisational, communication, reporting and presentation skills.
• MEng / MSc Degree level of education, or equivalent.
• Incorporated / Chartered Member of a relevant Professional Body.
