CUSTOMS COMPLIANCE CONTROLLER
Appointment Basis: Permanent
Location: This is a national role which can be based at Wolverhampton or any other of our UK sites. Will require travel to other sites and occasional European travel.
Salary: £37,800

Purpose of role
In the position of our Customs Compliance Controller, you’ll ensure all transport activity operates in compliance to import, export and tax regulations, whilst enabling smooth inbound and outbound transport flows.
In this role, effective and transparent communication and stakeholder management experience is key as you’ll work closely with both internal and external customers and suppliers including 3rd party logistics providers, customs brokers, HMRC and external customers.
What are my responsibilities?
Customs compliance
- Maintain continual oversight of all Customs procedures at import/export to ensure they are correctly applied considering all required principles when importing/exporting/transiting goods as regards to customs declarations, application of specific regimes, origin rules and customs valuation.
- Monitor potential non-compliance situations and act upon them.
- Manage risk identification and mitigation across the different operational customs activities.
- Ensure that legal requirements are met to receive and maintain the relevant customs authorisations
- Support the successful accreditation and subsequent administration of HMRC regulatory requirements and similar post Brexit certifications
Customs Management
- Ensure the provision of accurate data across all required documentation to enable the 3PL and broker(s) in charge of customs declarations to deliver to compliant process.
- Follow the financial and accounting aspects related to customs clearance operations ensuring accuracy of reporting from 3PLs
- Monitor and report customs operational performance (productivity and quality) to the country/site management as well as to central Tax and Customs dept.

You will need to have a knowledge of UK Customs regulations and associated Trade agreements that the UK has in place worldwide.

Essential Requirements
Educational:
- Degree qualified or equivalent experience.
Technical skills and competencies
- Experience as the Customer in the management of 3rd party logistics companies.
- Knowledge of International Trade / Customs law / Supply Chain
Desirable requirements
- Knowledge of customs regulations: Harmonised customs classification / origin rules / customs valuation rules / free trade agreements
- Recognized industry qualifications are an advantage
- Membership of an appropriate professional bodies (e.g. chartered institute of logistics & transport)
