Heavy Fleet Engineering – Multi Location

£60,000 + Outstanding Company Pension

Monday–Friday

40 hours per week with Flexible Schedule

Ready to take ownership of materials strategy across one of the UK’s leading logistics and engineering operations?

We are recruiting for a Head of Materials on behalf of a global engineering and industrial services leader, recognised for delivering reliability, safety, and performance across a complex, high-value fleet operating nationwide. In this pivotal role, you will take full strategic and operational ownership of the materials function, overseeing planning, control, and supply performance across multiple engineering hubs. You will drive efficiency, standardisation, and resilience across a multi-site operation, supported by an outstanding benefits package designed to reward top-tier leadership talent.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Materials or Supply Chain Leader who excels in fast-paced, high-demand environments such as Logistics, complex Manufacturing, Automotive, Aerospace, or Defence where precision, reliability, and safety are critical.

What You will Gain

This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of the materials strategy and inventory control across multiple sites, ensuring every component, process, and decision drives seamless operations and peak performance.

In return, you will join a business that truly values its people, offering exceptional Defined Benefit Plan, flexible Monday–Friday schedule with hybrid options, and genuine opportunities for career growth and professional development. You will also benefit from enhanced family leave, life assurance, and a range of additional benefits that reflect the seniority and impact of this role.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will take full ownership of inventory leadership by overseeing material control, planning, and audit accuracy through advanced asset management systems. You will build a resilient and responsive supply chain, anticipating challenges before they arise and working closely with suppliers to keep operations running smoothly.

You will champion continuous improvement by regulating and streamlining processes, embedding lean principles, and introducing clear visual management practices across sites. Teamwork is key as you will partner with production, engineering, and suppliers to ensure materials flow efficiently and effectively. You will lead with safety in mind, fostering a proactive culture that meets and exceeds operational and regulatory standards.

The Company

You will be joining a leading UK logistics and engineering organisation recognised for its innovation, reliability, and commitment to developing its people. The business is built on a strong culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, ensuring every team member plays a part in delivering excellence to its customers.

What You will Bring

If you are an experienced materials or supply chain leader ready to take on a wider strategic remit, this role offers the scope and influence to make a real impact. You will bring proven experience leading at a senior level, perhaps as a Materials Manager, Supply Chain Manager, or Logistics Controller and a deep understanding of inventory systems, procurement processes, and forecasting tools.

You will take ownership of a nationwide inventory operation covering major product lines, shaping strategy and driving performance across multiple sites. Drawing on your background in complex, high-demand industries such as logistics, aerospace, maritime, or heavy automotive, you will introduce world-class SKU management, embed consistent best practices, and build high-performing teams that thrive on continuous improvement.

You will combine operational discipline with strategic vision, proactively solving problems, improving processes, and ensuring materials performance supports every part of the business.

This position is subject to standard pre-employment checks, including references, medical assessment, and drug & alcohol screening. Some travel between sites will also be required, typically two to three times per month.

Next Steps

Ready to lead at the executive level? If your background in heavy maintenance, logistics, or fleet operations has given you proven expertise in inventory control and supply chain resilience, this is your opportunity to pivot your skills into a new, nationally significant industrial sector.
