Rail Contracts Manager - Alberta

Contract Type: Fixed-Term
EWI are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join a major infrastructure programme in Alberta. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in contract negotiation, administration, and risk management within large-scale engineering or construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex contract negotiations and secure favourable terms while ensuring compliance with company policies.
- Provide expert contractual and commercial advice to project teams, identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Draft, review, and execute subcontracts in collaboration with procurement, design, and construction teams.
- Administer subcontract correspondence and maintain compliance with notice and response timelines.
- Monitor subcontractor claims, offsets, and forecasts; prepare monthly accruals and financial reports.
- Support strategic planning activities, including risk assessments and business plan development.
- Assist in resolving contractual disputes and claims with contractors and stakeholders.
- Prepare detailed subcontract status reports for senior management.
- Mentor and develop contract administration staff, ensuring consistent high-quality performance.
- Stay current with industry standards and best practices in contract management.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Law, Business Administration, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 15 years of prime contract administration experience, ideally within large international engineering or construction firms.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage complex contractual issues independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
- Proficiency in contract administration software and MS Office tools.
- Ability to work on-site as required, including navigating active construction environments.
Preferred
- Experience in joint venture or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of risk management, claims resolution, and commercial strategy.
