Summary of the Rolling Stock Expert role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Rolling Stock Expert to join a high-profile rail freight development project in Jordan. This $2.3 billion project will develop a 360 km freight rail network connecting key mining regions (Al-Shidiya and Ghor Al-Safi) with the Port of Aqaba.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the management and operations of the rolling stock fleet, which includes locomotives, freight wagons, and other rail vehicles. This position will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient utilization, maintenance, and performance of all rolling stock assets in alignment with international best practices and safety standards.
The key responsibilities for this Rolling Stock Expert role are:
- Developing and implementing long-term plans and strategies for rolling stock fleet management, considering factors such as fleet size, composition, modernization, and replacement.
- Overseeing the entire life cycle of rolling stock, from acquisition and deployment to maintenance and retirement. This includes monitoring fleet performance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and optimizing fleet utilization.
- Collaborating with maintenance teams to establish effective maintenance programs, ensuring that rolling stock is regularly inspected, serviced, and repaired to maintain high reliability and safety standards.
- Managing the procurement process for new rolling stock, including defining technical specifications, evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and monitoring delivery schedules.
- Developing and managing the budget for the Rolling Stock Department, including forecasting expenses, monitoring costs, and optimizing resource allocation to achieve cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborating with other departments within the railway company, such as Operations, Engineering, and Finance, to ensure alignment of goals, coordinate activities, and address any rolling stock-related issues.
- Staying updated on relevant regulations and standards pertaining to rolling stock operations, safety, and environmental requirements, and ensuring compliance with these regulations.
- Establishing performance indicators and metrics to monitor the performance of rolling stock, analysing data, and preparing regular reports for management on key performance indicators, maintenance activities, and fleet availability.
- Keeping up to date of advancements in rolling stock technology and industry best practices and exploring opportunities for incorporating new technologies or improving existing systems to enhance the efficiency, safety, and reliability of rolling stock operations.
Experience required for this Rolling Stock Expert role are:
- Proven experience (Ideally 10+ years) in rolling stock engineering, maintenance, or fleet management within a railway or public transport organization.
- Hands-on experience with rolling stock maintenance programs, reliability engineering, and asset management systems.
- Experience in budget planning and financial oversight for large-scale rail operations or engineering departments.
