Sample Preparation Assistant

We are currently working with a major engineering consultancy who are working in a joint venture partnership with FAPAS, Fera who are working proactively to protect the world we live in and the food we eat, who are looking to expand their team in York by hiring a Sample Preparation Assistant. FAPAS is a registered trademark of Fera Science Limited and is a world-renowned accredited proficiency testing provider, supporting the food and water testing industries. We support laboratories to help them to achieve the quality of analysis demanded of them by their customers, accreditation bodies and managers.

 

This role is in the FAPAS Sample Preparation Team making food and feed test material samples by a variety of methods for a 3000+ international customer base. We are a dedicated team making an extensive variety of products.

As Sample Preparation Assistant your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• As SamWorking to the required safety and quality standards in a laboratory
• Working with chemical contaminants to produce materials for testing
• Using machinery and instruments, from handheld blenders to industrial mixers and mills
• Preparing, storing and delivering a wide variety of samples to tight deadlines
• Maintaining a clean working environment
• Logging in samples on a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• General duties: record keeping, stocking consumables, emptying waste, cleaning.

 

The post will involve manual handling, standing for prolonged periods, walking across site to deliver samples and working in cold environments for which Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided; you will need to be clean shaven for work for some PPE. We work with food and feed samples of all types, and this includes allergens and raw and cooked meat. Work is in a lab and contaminants are used.

• Scientific knowledge or experience of working with food, animal feed or a background in catering or practical logistics would be beneficial.
• An understanding of compliance with Quality Systems accreditation criteria would be ideal.
