About Network Rail
At Network Rail, our purpose is simple: to keep passengers and freight moving safely and efficiently across the country. When you join us, you become part of a team whose work matters to millions every day. We believe people are at the heart of what we do, and every role contributes to building a safer, more reliable and better-connected railway.
We’re committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects the communities we serve. As a Disability Confident Leader, we work hard to accommodate individual needs throughout the recruitment process and support flexible working wherever possible.
If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you.
About the Role
Our Technicians play a critical role in the daily maintenance and safe operation of the rail network. Working outdoors year-round—day or night—you’ll support essential S&T maintenance to ensure the railway remains safe, reliable and fit for purpose for both passengers and freight users.
The role involves physical, hands-on work in all weather conditions, often requiring you to carry equipment across challenging terrain. You will frequently work in areas close to live railway lines, so being safety-focused, attentive to detail and able to follow rules precisely is essential.
Technicians form the key link between the Team Leader and the wider maintenance team. You’ll contribute to delivering planned and reactive maintenance, ensure colleagues have the right competencies for tasks, and act as a role model for safe behaviours. When needed, you may lead the team in the Team Leader’s absence.
Network Rail offers extensive training and continuous development. Many of today’s Technicians go on to become tomorrow’s Team Leaders, and we’ll support your growth through both technical and non-technical learning.
