Working in Vehicles Engineering Technical Services as part of the ATMS Maintenance team you will be leading on the practical day to day maintenance of remote track monitoring systems, specifically the Automatic Track Monitoring Systems (ATMS) fitted to LUL Bakerloo, Victoria and SSL passenger trains as well as additional instrumentation to ensure LUL Track Inspection Compliance standards are achieved.
You’ll make sure our assets are safe, working and compliant. You will work in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders such as Fleet and Track APD and OEM suppliers to deliver and develop solutions to ensure on-going operation of ATMS.
Your work will include, but not be limited to leading on the practical day to day depot, workshop or office-based system planned and reactive maintenance on ATMS instrumentation and installations.
This includes the mechanical, IT, electrical and electronics aspects of the systems including fibre optic and copper-based interconnections. Some specifics include;
• Attend depots and other locations as required to carry out all aspects of planned maintenance in a timely manner to ensure equipment remains safe, operable and within compliance requirements.
• Attend depots and other locations as required to carry out all aspects of reactive maintenance in a timely manner, prioritising conflicting workstreams to minimise loss of track inspection date to our stakeholders.
• Carry out periodic calibrations and testing of the laser based inertial measurement systems.
• Act as Site Person in Charge (SPC) when on site/in depot.
• Act as a laser responsible person in charge of ATMS maintenance/calibration activities when in depot (training will be given).
• Take ownership and isolate ATMS trains for depot maintenance tasks. Working alongside/with depot staff as necessary.
• Support and carry out root cause analysis of issues and provide engineering solutions to resolve engineering and obsolescence issues in relation to the mechanical installation, bespoke instrumentation and ancillary noise/vibration and audio-visual monitoring systems.
• Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders inc. line management and others - both internal and external – to ensure they are up to date and work with them to resolve issues as they develop.
• Manage the day to day updating of ATMS records/documentation/fault issues as workstreams develop.
• Oversee all team record keeping such as work orders/RMAs and equipment and tooling records are kept up to date to ensure stakeholders have accurate information for wider TfL/LUL requirements.
• Ensure equipment repairs and returns are managed promptly and effectively taking account of conflicting team priorities.
• As an integral member of the ATMS maintenance team, you will be expected to continue to develop your expertise within the team and share your knowledge with other engineers to aid their development and support the team.
You’ll make sure our assets are safe, working and compliant. You will work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders such as Fleet and Track APD and OEM suppliers to deliver and develop solutions to ensure on-going operation of ATMS. With guidance from your experienced peers, you’ll become a trusted source of engineering advice for everyone that comes to you, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.
This involves a cross-discipline, flexible approach with regards working hours to deal with mechanical, electrical, electronic and IT based issues related to ATMS systems as they arise. To achieve this, whilst the role is predominantly days, flexibility is required in relation to the operational railway to ensure access to ATMS trains around Fleet requirements. As such, occasional evening/night and weekend depot working is required as work stream priorities require.
