HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: BIM Coordinator – Design & Engineering

Location:

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role Description:

• Manage the collection and storage of deliverables and outputs taking into account the project BIM processes and protocols

• Lead the integration and co-ordination of supply chain information into the BIM environment, such as survey data, fabrication details and construction sequencing.

• Engage with down-stream users to help improve their work, e.g. set up and sharing of model views and walk-throughs to enhance their appreciation of the design/construction intent and help assist health and safety initiatives.

• Manage and facilitate the Sublot BIM o-ordination Workshops and model co-ordination meetings;

• Manage the pumping stations Project Information Model (PIM) to ensure review comments and clash reports are closed out and/or mitigated.

• Conduct validation checks on the design model to check they contain the agreed level of information and in the format required.

• Ensure model information is provided which enables setting out of the works, through interaction with the project surveying team and site engineers.

• Conduct training and workshops. Assist with the implementation of required software for BIM within the Project.

Essential Experience:

• Experience working as a BIM Coordinator, Digital Engineering Coordinator or similar role within construction, infrastructure or engineering projects.

• Strong understanding of BIM processes, model coordination and information management principles.

• Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary design and subcontractor models

• Experience federating models and performing clash detection using software such as Navisworks, Bentley Navigator or equivalent

• Experience working within a Common Data Environment (CDE)

• Knowledge of BIM data exchange formats including IFC

• Can demonstrate technical ability with the use of BIM Software applications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, to aid the ongoing management of the Project Information Model, through active interaction with the wider project team

• Proficiency in IT

• Quick to learn new applications and tools.

• A good knowledge of the UK BIM standards and BIM Level 2 requirements and an understanding of ISO 19650.

• Experience and enthusiasm in developing the skills of others - expected to coach and disseminate knowledge to team including apprentices, graduates and more experienced members of the team.

• Drive for continuous improvement and finding more efficient ways of working.

• Rigour in application of information management standards.
