HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Lifting Assurance Lift Supervisor – Health and Safety

Location:

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role description:

• The purpose of this role is to support the Lifting Assurance team operating across the Central Region of BBV, establishing and maintaining the highest lifting standards for the project.

• Conduct compliance inspections and audits across the region with the flexibility to cover shift patterns where requested.

• Assist the development and implementation of new requirements, innovation, initiatives and campaigns.

• Conduct briefings, and support the mentoring and coaching of the lift team members across the Region to support the highest standards for lifting across the project.

Accountabilities:

• Demonstrate a personal commitment to health, safety and wellbeing and lead by example

• Develop good professional relationships with the sublot project teams.

Lifting Assurance and Health & Safety:

• Undertake lifting activity inspections, audits and compliance evaluations, recording outputs and liaise with lifting teams and site management as appropriate to ensure actions are completed.

• Communicate change and new requirements and support the embedment of these changes as necessary.

• To develop and help deliver suitable briefing programmes for all relevant personnel (including toolbox talks and topic specific presentations).

• Maintain records, minutes, registers and data as required.

• Liaise with Lifting Assurance colleagues within Central Region attending regular co-ordination meetings.

• Promote a positive safety culture through proactive engagement and communications with lifting teams, including the supply chain.

Essential Qualifications:

• CPCS / NPORS Blue competency card for Lift supervisor.

• IT Skills - Word Excel.

• Full driving licence

Essential knowledge or/experience:

• Health & Safety legislation, regulations

• Experience working with the following: Tower cranes / overhead gantry cranes / crawler cranes / mobile cranes / telehandlers / 360 Roto’s and excavators used for lifting.

• Practical working knowledge of BS7121 (All Parts) and LOLER Regulations 1998

• Experience of working on major civil engineering or construction projects.
