Job Introduction
This role is responsible for the delivery of a shaft, adits and cross passages, requiring approximately 5 years’ experience in shaft and tunnelling works using SCL methods.
You will develop the design, construction methodology, programme, and cost for your area of work, and oversee delivery by managing resources, supervising site teams and subcontractors, and ensuring works are completed in line with contract, programme, budget, and design requirements.
You will also ensure compliance with HS2 and statutory Health, Safety, Environmental, and Public Relations requirements, and manage QA processes including compilation of handover documentation and client approvals.
Role Responsibility
- Develop design, construction methodology, programme, and cost, and prepare for delivery including resources, procurement, consents, and pre-start documentation.
- Manage, supervise, and mentor site teams to maximise performance and ensure effective delivery.
- Coordinate and requisition resources to ensure availability in line with programme requirements.
- Ensure implementation of inspection and test plans (ITPs), risk assessments, and method statements.
- Liaise internally with construction, engineering, QA, and commercial teams, and externally with HS2, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Review drawings, 3D models, and specifications to identify scope, risks, and required changes.
- Lead design change management, working collaboratively with designers to agree solutions.
- Oversee temporary works requirements, ensuring designs and briefs align with the construction schedule.
- Manage quality assurance, including ITP records, as-built documentation, redline drawings, and handover packs.
- Manage non-conformances through to close-out and maintain accurate records of additional works and instructions.
- Maintain detailed site records, including daily diaries, changes, and stakeholder communications.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability requirements relevant to the works.
- Adhere to all project procedures and governance requirements.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Lead by example to ensure health and safety is prioritised in all activities.
- Implement and monitor compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
- Ensure policies and procedures are clearly communicated and followed by all personnel and subcontractors.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or HNC with relevant experience
- Technical knowledge of construction/tunnelling techniques and best practices.
- Competent in Amberg tunnel software or similar to produce as-built records, control excavation stages, and generate accurate tunnel profiles in line with design requirements.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Temporary Works Supervisor/Coordinator experience
- Proficiency in MS Office, document control systems, AutoCAD, and Aphex
- Relevant CSCS card
- Training in Health, Safety, and Environmental management
- Strong communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience in Cast insitu RC works, groundworks, piling, steel structures, cladding, or fit-out.
