Role Overview:The Slinger/Signaller plays a vital role in supporting lifting operations on site by guiding crane and lifting equipment operators to move loads safely and efficiently. They ensure that lifting activities are carried out in line with the site lifting plan, safety procedures, and HS2 standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely sling and signal loads during lifting operations using appropriate methods and equipment.
- Direct crane operators using industry-standard hand signals and/or radio communications.
- Conduct pre-lift checks and ensure lifting equipment is in good condition and certified.
- Confirm that all lifting operations follow the approved lifting plan and risk assessments.
- Maintain exclusion zones and ensure unauthorised personnel are kept clear during lifts.
- Monitor and assess load stability, balance, and movement during lifts.
- Communicate clearly with lifting teams, supervisors, and plant operators.
- Report any incidents, defects, or unsafe practices to site management.
- Assist with the coordination of multiple lifting activities and ensure sequencing is understood.
- Promote a strong safety culture in line with HS2 health and safety protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid CPCS/NPORS Slinger/Signaller certification (or equivalent).
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- Thorough understanding of lifting operations, rigging techniques, and signal protocols.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to read and interpret lifting plans and method statements.
- Experience working on large civil engineering or infrastructure projects (preferred).
