Job description:

Role Overview:
The Steelfixer is responsible for cutting, bending, positioning, and securing steel bars and mesh to reinforce concrete structures in line with engineering specifications and construction drawings. This role is key to delivering the reinforced concrete elements of the HS2 infrastructure project to high safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret construction drawings, bar bending schedules, and specifications.
- Measure, cut, bend, and fix steel bars and mesh using hand and power tools.
- Tie rebar and mesh together using wire, clips, or welding as required.
- Position and secure steel reinforcement within formwork before concrete pours.
- Ensure correct cover, spacing, and alignment of reinforcement as per design.
- Work closely with concrete teams to coordinate pour schedules and sequences.
- Follow site safety procedures, including the use of correct PPE and lifting techniques.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, minimising risks and hazards.
- Report material shortages, defects, or design issues to the foreman or supervisor.
- Support quality assurance processes by ensuring all work meets specified standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid CSCS card (NVQ Level 2 in Steel Fixing or equivalent preferred).
- Proven experience as a steelfixer on large-scale civil or infrastructure projects.
- Ability to read technical drawings and bar bending schedules.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations and safe manual handling practices.
- Physically fit, with good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Experience on reinforced concrete works, such as slabs, columns, beams, and retaining walls
