Sub Agent – Earthworks & Structures

Earthworks West Ruislip

We currently have a vacancy for a Sub Agent within our Earthworks & Structures Delivery Unit, working in the Earthworks team at West Ruislip.

As a Sub Agent, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient and successful delivery of a defined section of works, including earthworks, drainage, landscaping, environmental works, fencing and precast installations. You will lead site teams and subcontractors, ensuring works are delivered safely, to programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

Reporting to the Agent, you will play a key role in planning and coordinating construction activities, managing project interfaces, driving performance and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships across the project.

Role Responsibility

  • Lead the safe delivery of earthworks, drainage, landscaping, planting, seeding, fencing and precast installation works.
  • Manage a section of works from planning through to completion, ensuring delivery against programme, cost, quality and safety objectives.
  • Coordinate and manage Site Engineers, Graduate Engineers, Supervisors and subcontractors to successfully deliver project milestones.
  • Develop and maintain short-term programmes, monitor progress and identify opportunities to improve productivity and performance.
  • Ensure labour, plant, materials and subcontract resources are effectively planned and managed.
  • Drive a positive health, safety and environmental culture across the worksite, ensuring full compliance with company and project requirements.
  • Review and approve RAMS, permits, inspection and test plans and construction documentation.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with contract requirements, approved methodologies and programme commitments.
  • Monitor temporary works requirements and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
  • Coordinate interfaces between earthworks, drainage, environmental, structures and third-party stakeholders.
  • Support commercial activities including forecasting, progress reporting, change management and compensation event submissions.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate project risks and constraints.
  • Ensure quality requirements are met and completed works are handed over in accordance with project procedures.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including diaries, progress reports, inspections and as-built information.
  • Promote innovation, continuous improvement and best practice across the project team.
  • Support the Agent and Construction Manager in achieving project and business objectives.

The Ideal Candidate

    • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
    • Proven experience in a Sub Agent, Senior Engineer or equivalent role on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

      Strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage, temporary works, precast installation, fencing, landscaping and environmental works..

    • Experience managing subcontractors and multiple concurrent work fronts.

    • Good understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management principles.

    • Strong planning and programme management skills.

    • Experience managing resources, productivity and construction delivery activities.

    • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.

    • Ability to lead teams and drive performance in a fast-paced construction environment.

    • Relevant CSCS Card.

    • SMSTS qualification.

    • Training in Health & Safety and Environmental Management.

    • Knowledge of environmental compliance, sustainability requirements and quality assurance processes.

    • Working towards or holding professional membership with ICE, CIOB or equivalent would be advantageous.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
