Description:

Design Manager – CBTC Systems

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
Type: Permanent
Salary: Excellent local package + benefits

EWI is supporting a major rail infrastructure programme in Denmark and is seeking an experienced Design Manager – CBTC Systems to join a high-profile project based in Copenhagen. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a complex, safety-critical rail signalling programme within one of Europe’s most progressive and well-funded transport markets.

The Opportunity

You will take ownership of the design coordination and delivery of CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) systems, working across multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful integration across the wider rail systems environment.

This role offers a client/consultancy-side perspective, meaning you will be acting as a technical authority and interface between stakeholders, rather than purely contractor delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design lifecycle for CBTC systems, from concept through to detailed design and implementation
  • Coordinate interfaces between signalling, telecoms, rolling stock, power, and infrastructure systems
  • Act as a key technical liaison between client, consultants, contractors, and suppliers
  • Review and validate design submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, standards, and safety regulations
  • Drive system integration activities and support testing & commissioning phases
  • Identify and mitigate design risks, ensuring delivery to programme timelines and budgets
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and wider project teams

Candidate Profile

  • 7–15 years’ experience within rail systems engineering, with a strong focus on signalling/CBTC systems
  • Broad, multidisciplinary systems background (e.g. signalling, telecoms, systems integration, rail infrastructure)
  • Proven experience working on the client side or within a consultancy environment
  • Strong understanding of systems integration and interface management on complex rail projects
  • Experience with GoA4 (fully automated, unattended train operation) systems would be highly advantageous
  • Familiarity with European rail standards and safety processes is desirable
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related field

Why Apply?

  • Opportunity to work on a flagship European rail project in Copenhagen
  • Join a collaborative, forward-thinking project environment
  • Competitive local Danish package, including strong benefits and work-life balance
  • Career progression within a growing and internationally recognised project framework
