RSSB are now recruiting for a Research Support Analyst to join a team of analysts in the Research directorate at RSSB. The Research directorate runs the research programme, generating new knowledge for the industry and supporting the dissemination and implementation of that knowledge. The principal responsibility of the analyst team is to assess ideas for new research projects. The analysts develop the project’s case for research, ensuring that the project will support the strategic needs of the rail industry and will represent good return on the investment. Following completion of projects, the analyst team is responsible for undertaking a review of the project, as well as facilitating the monitoring of industry implementation of the findings.

What you'll do: 
You will stay abreast of new research within the rail industry and beyond, critically assessing information to support the delivery against a broad scope of potential activities, which are expected to include:

<li>Experience in a cost engineering or cost control role within construction, rail, civils or engineering environments, or substantial experience as a Cost Clerk handling cost control and invoicing tasks</li><li>Strong understanding of construction project cost elements including plant, labour, materials, depot operations and subcontract packages</li><li>Demonstrable experience processing invoices, checking alignment with purchase orders and ensuring accurate cost allocation</li><li>Confidence engaging with suppliers to query costs, challenge discrepancies and ensure accurate charging</li><li>Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail</li><li>Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (such as Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Construction Management) is preferred</li><li>Familiarity with cost control systems such as Copernic, JADE, LISA or similar</li><li>Membership of ACostE or a similar professional body is advantageous</li></ul>

Pay: £20.66 PAYE; £26.88 Umbrella per hour Shifts: Sunday to Thursday, Permanent Night shift

The role:
Your role will be hands-on, varied, and rewarding and it would include:

<li>Repairing and maintaining train interiors, from panel and paint repairs to seat covers, glazing, window films, armrests, tabletops, and toilet fittings.</li>

<li>Ensuring tools and equipment are prepared, maintained, and safe to use, reporting any issues quickly to keep productivity high.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Managing materials and parts effectively, keeping track of stock and flagging shortages.</li>
</ul>

<li>Keeping accurate records of your work, whether on paper or electronically, so the maintenance story of each train is crystal clear.</li>

<li>Working closely with your team, sharing ideas and communicating effectively to get the job done right, first time.</li>

What would help you thrive in this role:
Strong hands-on mechanical assembly skills and an interest in hands-on work, experience in fitting or maintenance is a real advantage.
A proactive, adaptable approach with a focus on safety and teamwork.
A PTS qualification is ideal, but not essential, support and guidance can be provided to help you get there.
The ability to pass a rail-standard medical and Drug &amp; Alcohol test (essential for safety in the industry).
