Safety
As always at Carillion, safety is our first priority. We take pride in our high safety standards and make a consistent effort to improve these records.
Major Projects
Our earlier successes include the Manchester Victoria Remodelling, Canary Wharf and Canada Water Stations on the Jubliee Line Extension and more recently the locally acclaimed Nottingham Tram System (NET).
We have completed some of the most successful major multi-disciplinary projects in recent years including many West Coast Route Modernisation projects such as Proof House Junction, North Staffs, Norton Bridge, Rugby, Nuneaton and Stockport.
The Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL), another major project, is the contract to install the high speed track and overhead line to phase 2.
Track Construction and Renewal
Carillion deliver a significant share of both the S&C and plain line work nationally. Network Rail’s 5 year contracts commenced in 2004 and include substantial commitment to ongoing performance improvements and price reduction. Our past successes also include the laying of concreted track in connection with the Channel Tunnel, Jubilee Line Extension and Heathrow Express projects.
Enhancements
Carillion have recently had a number of successes resulting in the award of projects to enhance the UK railway network. These include the Vale of Glamorgan railway in South Wales, Filton Junction near Bristol, Allington Chord on the East Coast Main Line and Larkhall Milngavie in Glasgow, Scotland.
Electrification and Power
Working as part of the joint venture on the WCRM OLE upgrade has meant that our overhead line capability is amongst the largest in the UK. Other involvement in the Electrification and Power portfolio includes the installation and upgrades of points heating, SCADA installation, distribution equipment, remote condition monitoring and the power supplies for signalling equipment. Overhead line and third / fourth rail installation is carried out across the UK, as either a stand alone project or integrated with track renewals and resignalling.
Our experience of points heating and signal power supplies is significant in the Midlands as well as on the ECML SCADA and Marsh Lane Interconnector at Leeds First. Signalling
Signalling works form a significant part of our activities. With over 50 signalling designers and a similar number of testing and commissioning staff we are able to deliver prestigious projects such as the Bedford to Bletchley Resignalling and the WCRM Linespeed improvement contracts in Scotland. SWGPA Framework Contracts in the London, North Western and South Eastern Asset Territories involve us in the ongoing renewal and upgrade of large parts of the signalling infrastructure. An earlier success was when Carillion was the top performing TPWS (Train Protection Warning System) Contractor UK wide.
Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering is the backbone of our capability. We undertake numerous activities on a range of schemes across the UK including the Portrack, Irlam and Moy Viaducts in Scotland and other major civil engineering enhancements to the WCML.
Where we are
Carillion’s rail headquarters is based in Birmingham UK but the spread of its resources across the country allows projects to be undertaken throughout the UK and into Scandinavia.
