Transmitton History:

Transmitton Limited, based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch is a leading supplier of integrated control and asset management solutions, serving the Rail and Process industries. Employing over 120 local staff, of which over 50% are graduate engineers, Transmitton continues to provide challenging and fulfilling environment for its employees whilst providing the highest levels of service to its customers.
The company was founded in 1972 by the late John Walters, an engineer who had the vision to develop electronic controls to improve safety in the mining industry. From a modest start up, based in the front room of Walter’s house, Transmitton grew rapidly and was acquired by the BICC group in 1978. Under BICC’s ownership Transmitton continued to prosper and diversified its technology offering into other sectors such as Pipelines, Utilities, Building Management and the Rail markets both in the U.K. and overseas.

In 1994 Transmitton was sold to the ICS Group plc, leading it to pursue opportunities in the international Oil and Gas business, in which its new parent was heavily engaged. During this period of ownership whilst Transmitton endeavoured to serve and support its more traditional markets of rail and infrastructure customers, undoubtedly its focus had been shifted away from this area. In August 2000, the ICS Group found itself in serious financial difficulties and was rescued by venture capital funding from Alchemy Partners, taking the group back into private ownership and re-establishing Transmitton as an independently managed business once again.

Under its current ownership and management, Transmitton has set about re-evaluating and re-establishing its market position as a leading supplier in the niche markets of Rail, Oil & Gas and the Process Industries and by further developing its Technical Support Services business to support its long established installed base customers. This has been achieved through careful evaluation of the company’s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities and from this by developing and implementing a highly focused sales and marketing strategy, allowing the business to differentiate its technologies and services from its competitors offerings. In parallel with this process, Transmitton has developed a new range of leading edge technologies for application in both its traditional market segments such as Traction Power Control as well as pioneering new developments and concepts such as its Integrated Station Management System, Network Management Software and Remote Condition Monitoring Systems.

Through these activities, Transmitton has now successfully established itself as the market leader in its segment of the U.K. rail industry and continues to develop and enhance its range of technologies and services to this growing market. In addition, the business has consolidated its position in with its blue chip customer base in the Oil & Gas market and has strengthened and grown Technical Support Services business.
